Canada Day in Port Credit Brings Street Festival and Fireworks

Canada Day in Port Credit Brings Street Festival and Fireworks to Mississauga

July 1, 2026 | 12:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m
Lakeshore Road (Stavebank Road and Hurontario Street)

As Mississauga prepares for Canada Day celebrations, Port Credit is set to host one of the city’s largest community gatherings with a full-day street festival and waterfront fireworks spectacular on July 1, 2026.

The event arrives following the postponement of the long-running Paint the Town Red festival until 2027. In response, local organisers and community leaders joined forces to ensure residents and visitors would still enjoy a memorable Canada Day celebration in the heart of Port Credit.

Lakeshore Road Transforms Into Festival Hub

For the occasion, Lakeshore Road will close between Stavebank Road and Hurontario Street, creating a pedestrian-friendly festival corridor packed with entertainment and attractions. The transformation of Port Credit’s Main Street into a bustling celebration space is expected to attract thousands throughout the day.

Festival-goers can explore a lively mix of live music performances, street entertainers, food vendors and interactive family programming. A dedicated children’s zone will feature activities designed for younger visitors, while amusement rides, including a towering Ferris wheel, will add a carnival atmosphere to the waterfront community.

Organisers say the event is intended to celebrate both Canada Day and the resilience of the Port Credit community after disappointment surrounding the festival postponement.

Community Leaders Celebrate Local Spirit

Ward 1 Councillor Stephen Dasko praised the collaborative effort behind the celebration, describing the festival as a reflection of Port Credit’s community pride and spirit.

Meanwhile, Victoria Clarke of Visit Mississauga highlighted the importance of showcasing the city’s culture, cuisine and entertainment through large-scale public events that bring residents together.

The event also represents a milestone for the Port Credit BIA, marking the first full Main Street closure organised by the association. Local business leaders anticipate increased visibility and foot traffic for restaurants, cafés and independent retailers throughout the neighbourhood.

Port Credit BIA Chair John Pappas noted that local businesses remain central to the area’s identity and said the celebration would provide an important economic boost during the busy summer season.

Mississauga Mayor Carolyn Parrish also expressed support for the event, calling it an example of the creativity and strength found within the Port Credit community.

Fireworks Finale Over the Waterfront

The celebration will conclude with a large fireworks display launched from a barge at the mouth of the Credit River, continuing one of Port Credit’s most cherished Canada Day traditions.

Paint the Town Red Chair John Bozzo said organisers are committed to delivering one of the most impressive fireworks presentations the community has seen.
