Harmony in the Falls: MusicFest Canada 2026 Takes Centre Stage in Niagara Falls

May 11 – 16, 2026
Various Niagara Locations

The turquoise mist of the famous falls may draw many to Niagara Falls, Ontario, but from May 11-16, 2026, the city will resonate with notes, rhythms and young voices as it plays host to the 54th edition of MusicFest Canada: The Nationals. This celebrated national music festival brings together some of Canada’s finest school-based ensembles in a week-long celebration of performance, learning and inspiration.

A Celebration of Student Excellence

For 2026, MusicFest Canada invites thousands of students, educators and music lovers to experience a programme that is as educational as it is exhilarating. The invitation-only event offers ensembles from across Canada the chance to perform for expert adjudicators, engage in workshops and attend headline concerts. One of the defining features of this year’s festival is the new requirement that every Concert Choir and Concert Combo present at least one composition by a Canadian composer — an initiative that underlines the event’s commitment to nurturing Canadian musical identity.

Set against Niagara Falls’s dramatic backdrop, the festival’s curated schedule invites participants to raise their artistry, explore new musical directions and connect with peers from coast to coast. Whether it’s a jazz combo improvising or a full wind ensemble tackling major repertoire, each performance becomes part of a larger national conversation in music education.

Concerts, Workshops and Events to Engage and Inspire

Beyond adjudicated performances, the festival features an impressive slate of featured concerts, workshops and interactive events. For example, on Monday, May 11, the “Big Smoke Brass” opens the festival evening with a jazz-funk‐rock offering at the Peller Estates Ballroom. The following days include appearances by the Central Band of the Canadian Armed Forces, the Ellison Canadian Honour Choir and the Laurier Honour String Orchestra — each spotlighting the highest echelons of youth and professional music making.

Workshops and edu-concerts allow participants to deepen their craft—covering topics from ensemble leadership to stage presence—while the awards ceremony on Saturday, May 16, brings together all the learners, educators and supporters to celebrate achievement and future promise.
