Halloween Takes Over the Aquarium
Something sinister is stirring beneath the surface in downtown Toronto. Dark Waters returns to Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada on Friday, October 30, 2026, transforming the popular attraction into an adults-only Halloween party surrounded by sharks, sawfish, jellyfish and other creatures of the deep.
The 19+ after-hours event combines the aquarium’s dramatic underwater galleries with Halloween entertainment, roaming performers, eerie photo opportunities, tarot readings, live pumpkin carving, themed treats and specialty food and drinks.
Dark Waters gives visitors a chance to experience the aquarium after regular hours with an entirely different atmosphere. Guests can explore the galleries decked out for Halloween, wander beneath the sharks of Dangerous Lagoon and move through dimly lit underwater environments while spooky entertainment unfolds around them.
Rather than a traditional haunted house, the aquarium itself provides much of the atmosphere. Sharks gliding overhead, glowing aquatic displays and shadowy galleries create an appropriately unusual setting for a Halloween night out.
Roaming Actors Bring the Scares
One of the additions highlighted for 2026 is roaming actors positioned throughout the aquarium.
Visitors should expect unexpected encounters as performers appear along the route, adding a theatrical Halloween element to the experience.
The scares are combined with specially created photo opportunities, giving costumed guests plenty of chances to capture the night.
Tarot Cards and Live Pumpkin Carving
Not everything lurking beneath Dark Waters has fins.
Limited tarot card readings will be offered during the evening, while live pumpkin carving adds another Halloween tradition to the underwater celebration.
Availability for tarot readings is limited, so visitors interested in having their cards read may want to seek out the experience earlier in the evening.
Halloween Treats Are Included
The 2026 event also includes several extras with admission. Guests can enjoy complimentary themed popcorn and gummy stations while supplies last, along with giveaways during the evening.
Each guest also receives a complimentary souvenir photo, which Ripley’s lists as a $25 value.
Halloween-inspired food and beverages will be available for purchase throughout the event. Expect specially curated cocktails alongside food options designed for the night. Food and alcohol tokens can be purchased using credit or debit cards.
Costumes Make It More Fun
Dark Waters is one of those Toronto Halloween events where arriving in costume is very much part of the experience.
The combination of underwater tunnels, colourful tanks, Halloween décor and eerie photo stations provides plenty of unusual backdrops for costumes that might normally only see the inside of a nightclub or Halloween party.
Guests should remember that this is strictly a 19+ event, so valid government-issued identification should be brought along.
