WeeFestival 2026 Celebrates Theatre for the Very Young
May 1 – 17, 2026
Various Toronto Locations
From May 1–17, 2026, Toronto’s youngest audiences will once again take centre stage as WeeFestival presents an inspiring programme created especially for children aged 0–6 and their grown-ups. Produced by Theatre Direct, the festival is internationally recognised for its commitment to innovative performance experiences tailored to the earliest years.
A Global Celebration of Early Years Performance
This year’s edition brings together a vibrant mix of theatre, dance, circus, puppetry and live music. Artists arrive from across Canada, Québec and overseas, alongside homegrown talent from Toronto. Each production is carefully crafted to engage young children through sensory storytelling, movement and intimate staging.
The 2026 line-up includes To Begin With by L’Arrière Scène, created for audiences aged 18 months and up, presented at Native Earth’s Aki Studio. For the tiniest festivalgoers, Baby Loves Music by Irish artist Eamon Sweeney welcomes infants aged 0–12 months in the Upper Gallery at the Meridian Arts Centre.
International flair continues with And the ideas soar… by Animal Religion, a visually dynamic work for children aged two and up, staged at the Greenwin Theatre. From Nova Scotia, Gale Force Theatre presents Lupinder’s Tent, a heartfelt piece for ages three and above in the Lower Gallery.
Canadian companies are also strongly represented. Kleine Company brings Little Pea to the Spadina Theatre for children aged three and up. WeeFestival co-productions include Cooo, created with artists Xin Wang and Michael Murphy for ages six months and older, and Avoou, a collaboration with Kune, Canada’s Global Orchestra—both performed at the Small World Music Centre.
Welcoming Venues Across the City
Performances unfold in intimate, family-friendly spaces across the city. Festival venues include Aki Studio and the Minigitoon workspace at Native Earth Performing Arts, the Spadina Theatre at Alliance Française, the Small World Music Centre, the Intergalactic Dance Collective Studio at Youngplace, and three venues within the Meridian Arts Centre in North York, presented in partnership with TOLive.
These thoughtfully selected settings ensure children remain close to the performers, encouraging curiosity and spontaneous engagement.
Inspiring Wonder from the Start
WeeFestival continues to demonstrate that meaningful cultural experiences can begin in infancy. By combining international artistry with local collaboration, the 2026 programme offers families a rare opportunity to experience world-class performance designed specifically for the very young—nurturing imagination, connection and joy from the very beginning.
