Second City Toronto Extends Mainstage Revue to 2019, Surprises Audiences With Unannounced New Touring Company Show

Toronto Mainstage Theatre, 51 Mercer Street

The Second City’s 81st sketch revue The Best Is Yet To Come Undone has been extended until 2019 due to popular demand – a near-unprecedented run for a Second City Toronto production. Written and performed by The Second City Toronto Mainstage cast,  The Best Is Yet To Come Undone features new members Sharjil Rasool (MANTOWN) and Chris Wilson (Royal Canadian Air Farce), plus returning cast members Allana Reoch (The Beaverton), Nadine Djoury (New Born Moms), Brandon Hackett (This Hour Has 22 Minutes), and Mainstage veteran Stacey McGunnigle (Stacey Helps).

With unflinching honesty, this all-star cast tackles 2018’s minefield of crushing clichés and relatable revelations. The Best Is Yet To Come Undone gleefully delves into how North American society has evolved in recent months, exploring everything from the #MeToo movement to micro/macro aggressions to feminist and minority groups to what it means to be an ally. Toss in a handful of musical numbers, plus a touch of magic, and the end result is a biting and uncompromisingly funny show for everyone to enjoy. The Best Is Yet To Come Undone is now playing on the Second City Mainstage every Tuesday through Sunday throughout the rest of 2018.

Hogtown Heatwave

And to add a little surprise to the summer, the Second City National Touring Company has, seemingly out of nowhere, mounted its latest ‘best-of’ production, Hogtown Heatwave. “We unveiled a new show out of the blue this past week, when audiences weren’t expecting it,” says director Shari Hollett. “Beyoncé’s been doing that with her albums lately, and we thought it’d be fun to take a page from her playbook.”

Hogtown Heatwave sees the cast of the smash hit Hooking Up: Second Base spending the summer with their favourite Second City scenes, songs, and characters while throwing in some new original material to really turn up the heat. A limited engagement, Hogtown Heatwave is now playing on the Second City Mainstage every Monday and Saturday until September 3.
