Kensington Market Jazz Festival Returns for an Unforgettable 11th Year This September

September 18, 19, and 20, 2026
Kensington Market, Toronto

The Kensington Market Jazz Festival (KMJF) is set to return for its 11th edition from September 18–20, 2026, bringing another weekend of outstanding live music to one of Toronto’s most vibrant and historic neighbourhoods. While this year’s artist line-up will be announced in the coming months, festival organisers are already encouraging music lovers to reserve the dates for what has become one of the city’s most anticipated annual cultural events.

Since launching in 2016, the festival has earned a loyal following by offering audiences an authentic jazz experience centred on community, creativity and Canadian talent.

A Festival Built on Intimate Performances

Unlike many large-scale music festivals, the Kensington Market Jazz Festival has remained committed to its guiding philosophy of “Better, Not Bigger.”

Rather than relying on massive outdoor stages, the festival transforms cafés, courtyards, patios, community spaces and live music venues throughout Kensington Market into intimate performance settings where audiences can experience jazz up close.

The addition of Toronto’s iconic El Mocambo further expands the festival’s collection of unique venues while maintaining the close connection between artists and audiences that has become its signature.

Over the past decade, the festival has welcomed more than 500 Canadian musicians, creating memorable performances powered by the dedication of more than 100 volunteers and strong community support.

Celebrating Canadian Jazz Excellence

The festival was founded by acclaimed Canadian vocalist Molly Johnson in partnership with Tracy Jenkins, combining a shared vision of showcasing the remarkable musical talent found across Canada.

Johnson, a celebrated performer and recipient of numerous national honours, continues to guide the festival while maintaining an active recording and touring career. Her passion for Kensington Market remains at the heart of the event, helping preserve the neighbourhood’s rich cultural identity through live music.

Each year, the festival typically presents more than 100 performances across approximately 10 venues, featuring over 100 Toronto-based and Canadian musicians performing throughout the weekend.

More Than a Music Festival

Beyond the concerts themselves, the Kensington Market Jazz Festival has developed into a year-round supporter of arts education and community engagement.

Its initiatives include the KMJF Kids Music Series, created in partnership with Yamaha Canada Music and St. Stephen’s Community House, along with artist recording projects, seasonal concert series and neighbourhood busking programmes that bring live music directly into public spaces.

The festival also provides a welcome economic boost for Kensington Market, attracting thousands of visitors who support the area’s more than 240 independent businesses, including restaurants, cafés, shops and galleries.

Building on a Successful Anniversary Year

The 2025 festival celebrated its 10th anniversary with an impressive programme featuring renowned Canadian artists, special collaborative performances, visual art installations and the debut of the popular Legacy Stage.

Organisers are looking to build on that success in 2026 while continuing to showcase both established performers and emerging jazz talent.

As a registered charitable arts organisation, the festival depends on donations, sponsorships and volunteers to continue its mission of supporting Canadian musicians and making live jazz accessible to the community.

With another weekend of exceptional performances on the horizon, the Kensington Market Jazz Festival once again promises to deliver an unforgettable celebration of live jazz, local culture and community spirit.

Tickets, artist announcements, volunteer opportunities and donation information will be available through the official Kensington Market Jazz Festival website as the event approaches.
