A Nostalgic Return to a Defining Automotive Era

The unmistakable spirit of the 1980s and 1990s is making a triumphant return to the 2026 Canadian International AutoShow. OBLIVION, the celebrated 80s and 90s car and culture collective, is back with an immersive feature display that invites visitors to rediscover an era that reshaped automotive design, performance, and lifestyle.

More than a showcase of rare vehicles, OBLIVION delivers an emotional journey—one that reconnects enthusiasts with the cars they once admired in magazines, posters, television shows, and video games. For many, these were the machines that sparked a lifelong love of motoring.

Now appearing at the AutoShow for the third consecutive year, OBLIVION has become a firm crowd favourite. Since launching its first official event in 2018, the collective has grown steadily, uniting owners and fans of vehicles from a time period often overlooked by traditional classic car shows.

The OBLIVION team recognised early on that many cars from the 1980s and 1990s were vanishing fast. Harsh Canadian winters and road salt accelerated their decline, transforming once-common sights into rare survivors. Rather than let the era fade quietly, the group set out to preserve not only the vehicles themselves but also the culture that surrounded them.

A Home Away from Home at the AutoShow

While OBLIVION hosts its annual summer event across unique and unexpected venues—from Ontario Place to shopping malls and beyond—the Canadian International AutoShow has become its winter home. Here, the team can fully recreate the atmosphere of the era through a dedicated, immersive room that blends cars with storytelling, nostalgia, and design.

“Our team grew up coming to the AutoShow every year in the 80s and 90s,” said Justin Sookraj, founder of OBLIVION. “Those cars were a bright spot during long Canadian winters. Being able to return and share that same excitement with today’s audience—using the very cars that inspired us—is something truly special.”

Celebrating a Cultural Movement

What began as small gatherings of like-minded enthusiasts evolved into a movement. Many OBLIVION members still own multiple vehicles from the era, and together they felt that existing car shows did not fully recognise the significance of the 1980s and 1990s. Their solution was to create a platform where this generation of cars could be celebrated on its own terms—bold, expressive, and unapologetically fun.

The first OBLIVION 80s and 90s Car and Culture Show took place on August 25, 2018, at the Milton Memorial Arena. Featuring vehicles, indoor displays, games, food trucks, and locally crafted food and drinks, it set the tone for what has since become an annual festival.
