Experience History Come Alive: The Re-enactment of the Battle of Stoney Creek

June 6 – 7, 2026
Battlefield House Museum & Park, 77 King Street West

History comes alive once again in Hamilton as the annual Re-enactment of the Battle of Stoney Creek returns to Battlefield House Museum & Park on June 6 and 7, 2026. Drawing history enthusiasts, families and visitors from across Ontario, the popular event recreates one of the most important conflicts of the War of 1812 through dramatic battle scenes, immersive historical demonstrations and interactive educational programming.

Held at the historic Battlefield House Museum & Park on King Street West, the weekend-long festival commemorates the events of June 6, 1813, when British troops launched a surprise overnight attack on American forces stationed near Stoney Creek. The battle became a pivotal turning point during the Niagara campaign and played a significant role in protecting Upper Canada during the war.

Living History Takes Over the Park

Throughout the weekend, the grounds of Battlefield Park are transformed into a bustling early nineteenth-century encampment. Re-enactors dressed in authentic military uniforms and civilian clothing recreate the atmosphere of wartime Canada, offering visitors a glimpse into daily life during the War of 1812.

Guests can wander through military camps, observe blacksmithing demonstrations and watch traditional cooking techniques using historical methods and equipment. Costumed interpreters remain in character while discussing military strategy, camp life and the experiences of civilians living through the conflict.

The event’s immersive format allows visitors to engage directly with historians and re-enactors, making it both educational and entertaining for audiences of all ages.

Dramatic Battle Re-enactments

The highlight of the weekend is the large-scale battle re-enactments staged across the park grounds. Complete with musket fire, cannon blasts and marching troops, the performances recreate the intensity and confusion of the original Battle of Stoney Creek.

Spectators gather along the hillside to witness British and American forces manoeuvring across the battlefield while military officers direct troop formations and simulated combat unfolds. The sound of drums, bugles and artillery adds to the realism, creating an unforgettable experience for attendees.

Battle re-enactments are scheduled for Saturday, June 6 at 3:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., with a final presentation taking place on Sunday, June 7 at 2 p.m.

Music, Activities and Family Entertainment

Beyond the battlefield demonstrations, the event offers a wide range of family-friendly activities and cultural programming. Traditional music performances contribute to the festival atmosphere, while children’s activities provide younger visitors with interactive ways to learn about Canadian history.

Guided tours of Battlefield House Museum also offer additional insight into the people and events connected to the War of 1812. Heritage artisans and food vendors further enhance the experience, helping create a lively community festival atmosphere throughout the weekend.
