Museums of Mississauga present DOORS. THROUGH THE HORRORS OF WAR.
January 17 – February 1, 2023
Small Arms Inspection Building (SAIB), 1352 Lakeshore Rd E, Mississauga
Presented by the Museums of Mississauga, this interactive exhibition curated by Canadian/Ukrainian artist, Ruslan Kurt illustrates the horrors of war in Ukraine using doors imported from urban battlefields.
“Putin returned the war to Europe. This war with Ukraine is a war with Europe, it’s a war with the whole democratic world. On February 24, 2022, the war knocked on the door of every Ukrainian. The “Doors” art installation will show and tell the stories of millions of Ukrainian men, women, and children who were forced to cross the doors of their homes to escape the war and terror of Russian troops. Many of them died without being able to get out. We draw a parallel with lives as doors. Because doors, like people, have their own story. We will take you through the doors of Ukrainian homes to show: What is life? What is death? What is fortitude? What is courage? And what is the price of freedom?” – Ruslan Kurt
