Step Into a Living Forest with Flora & Fauna at FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre

February 16, 2026 | 10 am, Noon & 2:30 pm
Robertson Theatre, St Catharines

Families are invited to slow down, look closely, and step gently into a world of wonder with Flora & Fauna, presented by FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre this Family Day. Created by Femmes du Feu Creations, this enchanting early years performance offers young children and their caregivers a chance to experience theatre as something to move through, sense, and share together.

Taking place on February 16, 2026, in the Robertson Theatre, Flora & Fauna is thoughtfully designed for early learners and their families. With performances at 10:00 am, 12:00 pm, and 2:30 pm, the schedule allows families to choose a time that suits little ones’ natural rhythms, making it a relaxed and welcoming Family Day outing.

An Immersive Theatre Experience for Early Years

At its core, Flora & Fauna explores themes of relationship and nature through an imaginative blend of installation and live performance. The audience is invited to let a magical forest come and greet them, transforming the theatre space into a gentle, interactive environment. Rather than sitting still and watching a traditional stage show, children and caregivers take part in a performative forest walk that encourages curiosity, attentiveness, and wonder.

This immersive approach allows young audiences to engage at their own pace. Soft visuals, evocative sounds, and tactile elements create a calm and nurturing atmosphere where children can observe, explore, and respond in ways that feel natural to them. Caregivers remain close throughout the experience, sharing moments of discovery and connection that extend beyond words.

Flora & Fauna places equal value on stillness and movement, imagination and presence. By focusing on sensory storytelling instead of linear narrative, the performance supports early childhood development while fostering an appreciation for the natural world and our relationships within it. It is a gentle invitation to notice small details, listen closely, and enjoy being together.

The production was created with generous support from The Ontario Arts Council, The Canada Council for the Arts, Theatre Gargantua, Carousel Players, and Theatre for Young People. This strong foundation reflects a shared commitment to creating high-quality, meaningful performing arts experiences for young audiences.

Presented by FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre, Flora & Fauna offers families a refreshing and memorable way to celebrate Family Day. Whether it is a child’s first encounter with theatre or a special shared experience, this immersive performance promises a magical introduction to the beauty of nature, imagination, and connection.
