The inspiring Canadian film Peace by Chocolate returns to Joseph Brant Museum in Burlington for two special summer screenings on July 14 and August 11, 2026. Based on a remarkable true story, the award-winning film celebrates resilience, hope, and the power of community through one family’s extraordinary journey to Canada.

Guests will enjoy an evening that combines cinema, history, and culture. In addition, each ticket includes museum admission, allowing visitors to explore the galleries before the film begins.

A Remarkable Story of Hope

Peace by Chocolate tells the true story of the Hadhad family, who fled the Syrian civil war and rebuilt their lives in Canada after settling in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. Once renowned chocolate makers in Syria, the family revived their business in Canada, creating the now-famous Peace by Chocolate artisan chocolate company.

Directed by Jonathan Keijser, the heartwarming film follows Tareq Hadhad and his family as they overcome adversity with determination, kindness, and support from their new community. The National Post described the film as “a heartwarming tale of triumph over adversity.”

Throughout the story, audiences witness how compassion, perseverance, and entrepreneurship can transform lives while strengthening communities.
