Scotiabank Caribbean Carnival Heated Up Toronto!

Torontonians couldn’t have asked for more beautiful weather to ring in the 46th annual Scotiabank Caribbean Carnival. On Saturday, August 3rd, 2013, the Lakeshore was graced with the sounds of the steel pan and Soca vibes as the community came together to celebrate and experience the Caribbean right in downtown Toronto.

Masqueraders took to the stage in elaborate, sparkling sequenced and colourful outfits, with their bands to face off for the Mas Band competition, and the title of Band of the Year. The gorgeous and elaborate outfits all handcrafted to perfection each fit a specific theme for this year’s parade. Band competitors for this year included Carnival Nationz, Toronto Revellers, and Blues Carnival Nation just to name a few, but it was Louis Saldenah Mas-K Club that took home the gold. There was no limit to what they could create with some of the biggest Mas costumes, some standing over 10 feet tall and weighing over 200 punds!

On the boardwalk there were man vendors offering a taste of the Caribbean with delicious options like jerk chicken and rice and pea, some of the best homemade Caribbean comfort foods. This year’s carnival was a huge success and we can’t wait to see what they already have in the works for next year!
