Discover Art Outdoors: Burlington Waterfront Sculpture Trail Returns for 2026

April 11 – May 31, 2026
Various Burlington Locations

The Burlington waterfront is set to transform once again into an open-air gallery as the Burlington Waterfront Sculpture Trail (BWST) returns for its fifth season from April 11 to May 31, 2026. This free, accessible exhibition invites visitors to experience contemporary sculpture in a stunning lakeside setting, blending art, nature and community in one unforgettable trail.

A Celebration of Public Art

Presented by the Dan Lawrie International Sculpture Collection in partnership with Cobalt Connects, the trail continues a decade-long commitment to bringing sculpture into the public realm. Inspired by founder Dan Lawrie’s passion for public art, the initiative has supported installations across Burlington through collaborations with local institutions and cultural programmes.

The BWST connects key نقاط across the downtown core and waterfront, offering visitors a scenic route where art meets everyday life. From large-scale installations to thought-provoking contemporary works, the trail showcases talent from artists across Canada, all of whom receive exhibition fees—ensuring meaningful support for the country’s creative community.

Art Along the Waterfront

Set against the backdrop of Lake Ontario, much of the trail centres around Spencer Smith Park, a popular gathering place known for its sweeping views and vibrant atmosphere. Here, sculptures are thoughtfully placed to interact with the landscape, encouraging visitors to explore at their own pace.

Whether you’re taking a leisurely stroll, enjoying a weekend outing, or planning a day trip, the trail offers a refreshing way to experience art outside traditional gallery spaces. It’s also an ideal activity for families, couples and solo explorers alike.

Highlight Events to Experience

Throughout the exhibition period, BWST hosts a series of engaging events designed to deepen the visitor experience.

  • Family Fun Day in the Park takes place on May 9, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Centred around the park’s gazebo, this lively event features free activities for children and families, including live music, hands-on art stations, games and performances. It’s a welcoming introduction to the trail for visitors of all ages.
  • Friday Night Lights, scheduled for April 24 and May 22, 2026, transforms the sculptures after dark. Beginning at dusk and running until 11:00 p.m., installations are illuminated with theatrical lighting and paired with a curated soundtrack, offering a completely different perspective on the artwork. It’s an especially atmospheric way to enjoy an evening by the water.
  • Tuesday Tours provide a more in-depth look at the collection. Held on April 14, April 28, May 12 and May 26, 2026, at 7:00 p.m., these free one-hour guided walks begin at the Spencer Smith Park gazebo. Led by guest guides, each tour offers insight into the artists, their processes and the stories behind the sculptures. Visitors are encouraged to grab a drink or snack from a nearby café and enjoy a relaxed, informative evening stroll.
