Organised by the volunteer-driven Celebrate Orillia Committee, the event offers something for every age group—from morning traditions and lively parades to evening concerts and fireworks over Lake Couchiching.

Start the Day with Pancakes and Family Activities

Canada Day in Orillia begins early with a popular pancake breakfast starting at 8:00 a.m. in the pavilion at Terry Fox Circle. Guests can enjoy pancakes served with local maple syrup, sausage and coffee or juice while gathering with friends and neighbours to kick off the celebration.

Throughout the morning and afternoon, the park transforms into a lively festival space filled with activities. The Vendor Village opens at 9:00 a.m., offering a variety of local goods and souvenirs, while food vendors begin serving classic festival favourites from late morning onwards.

Families with children will also find plenty to explore at the Children’s Village, where free activities include inflatables, crafts, face painting, demonstrations and opportunities to meet costumed characters. These interactive attractions are designed to keep younger visitors entertained throughout the afternoon.

Parade and Midway Fun

A highlight of the day is the Canada Day Parade, which begins at 12:00 p.m. from the City Hall area and travels down Mississaga Street before ending at Couchiching Beach Park. The colourful parade features community groups, decorated floats and enthusiastic participants celebrating Canadian pride.

Children can also take part in the playful Wheelie Great Parade, decorating bikes, wagons, scooters and other wheeled creations before rolling through Terry Fox Circle.

For even more excitement, the midway offers rides, inflatables and games throughout the day and evening, adding a carnival atmosphere to the waterfront park.

Live Entertainment and Evening Festivities

Live entertainment continues throughout the day at the Rotary Aqua Theatre, with a variety of performances scheduled from late morning into the evening. Visitors can relax by the waterfront while enjoying music, performances and community celebrations.

The park also features a lively beer garden and numerous food vendors, making it easy to enjoy dinner and refreshments while taking in the festive atmosphere.

Fireworks Over Lake Couchiching

The celebration concludes with a spectacular fireworks display beginning at approximately 9:45 p.m. The colourful show lights up the sky above Lake Couchiching, creating a memorable finale for thousands of spectators gathered along the waterfront.

With traditions, entertainment and community spirit at its heart, Orillia’s Canada Day celebration remains one of the region’s most beloved summer events. Visitors can expect a welcoming atmosphere, plenty of family fun and a beautiful lakeside setting to mark Canada’s birthday.
