CCO x AGO Friday Night Series

CCO x AGO Friday Night Series

February 6, March 6, and April 10, 2026 | 6-9 pm
Walker Court, Art Gallery of Ontario

The CCO x AGO Friday Night Series transforms select evenings at the Art Gallery of Ontario into a lively meeting point for music, art, and community. Presented in collaboration between the Canadian Chamber Orchestra (CCO) and the AGO, this after-hours performance series invites audiences to experience the gallery in a fresh and engaging way, where live music unfolds within one of Toronto’s most iconic cultural spaces.

Running on February 6, March 6, and April 10, 2026, from 6–9 pm, the series takes place in Walker Court, the architectural heart of the AGO. These Friday nights encourage visitors to ease into the weekend by exploring the gallery after hours, enjoying performances in an open setting, and engaging with art in a more social, relaxed atmosphere.

A Collaborative Performance Experience

At the centre of the series is the Canadian Chamber Orchestra, a 14-piece ensemble made up of some of the finest musicians in the country. Known for its intimate and immersive approach, the orchestra creates performances that feel immediate and deeply connected to both the space and the audience. Each musician brings a distinct energy to the ensemble, shaping performances that are responsive, expressive, and alive in the moment.

Rather than presenting music from a traditional stage perspective, the orchestra embraces the openness of Walker Court. Sound moves through the space, interacting with the AGO’s architecture and surrounding artworks. Audiences are invited to engage freely—listening closely, moving through the space, or simply absorbing the atmosphere—making each evening feel participatory rather than fixed or formal.

Expanding the Chamber Music Experience

The Canadian Chamber Orchestra is driven by a mission to push the boundaries of what a chamber orchestra can be. Its programming spans reimagined classical works, contemporary Canadian compositions, and new commissions, offering audiences a rich and varied musical landscape. This adventurous spirit reflects a commitment to storytelling and innovation, ensuring that each performance resonates on an emotional as well as artistic level.

Collaboration is central to the orchestra’s identity. Performers work closely with composers, guest artists, and audiences, allowing each event to evolve through shared creativity and collective energy. These performances are not just concerts but shared experiences that foster connection and dialogue, aligning naturally with the AGO’s vision of the gallery as a living cultural space.

Friday Nights at the AGO

The CCO x AGO Friday Night Series also highlights the AGO’s ongoing efforts to reimagine how audiences engage with art. By opening its doors after hours, the gallery becomes a vibrant social hub where music, visual art, and conversation intersect. Visitors can explore select galleries, enjoy refreshments, and experience live performance in a setting that feels both inspiring and accessible.

Set within one of Toronto’s most celebrated cultural landmarks, the CCO x AGO Friday Night Series offers a compelling way to experience performance—informal, immersive, and unmistakably contemporary.
