International choreographer and director Alexander Ekman has collaborated with over 45 dance companies globally, creating compelling pieces for theatres, opera houses, museums, and live performances. Critically acclaimed and award-winning, Ekman is known for his formidable creative vision and appealing madness within his choreography and score. Play is no exception.

Featuring 36 dancers from the Paris Opera Ballet and interactive set pieces that include over 40,000 green balls, the work draws inspiration from the childlike impulse to jump into action, with an energetic score by composer Mikael Karlsson.

About Digidance

Digidance is back for a third season in 22/23. This joint initiative of Canadian dance presenters aims to deliver exceptional, full-length Canadian and international dance content online to patrons across the country. Each video-on-demand piece is accompanied by a “enhancement” segment that consists of interviews with artists and provides context and depth for the audience’s appreciation, produced exclusively for Digidance viewers.

About Nordic Bridges

Built on shared values of creativity, innovation, inclusivity, resilience and sustainability, Nordic Bridges will serve to connect the Nordic Region – Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, the Faroe Islands, Greenland and Åland – and Canada through collaborations between artists, innovators and thinkers. From January to December 2022, this national initiative will highlight contemporary Nordic art and culture in a range of disciplines, including performing arts (dance, theatre, circus and music), visual and digital arts, craft and design, literature, film, and culinary arts.
