Canadian Stage has officially unveiled its highly anticipated 2026-2027 season, promising a diverse and innovative lineup that reflects the company’s commitment to bold, boundary-pushing theatre. This season is an unmissable season with Toronto and Canadian premieres, brilliant Canadian actors and ensembles tackling major contemporary and classical works, and the next chapter of Ross Petty’s beloved holiday Panto tradition.

Wine in the Wilderness

Set against the backdrop of Harlem in 1964, Wine in the Wilderness follows artist Bill Jameson as an unexpected evening forces his friends to confront assumptions about identity, class, and Black womanhood. When Tommy arrives to model for his latest portrait series, long-held perceptions begin to unravel through candid conversation and uneasy revelations. Directed by Jordan Laffrenier, this revival of Wine in the Wilderness delivers humour, emotional depth, and a powerful examination of how people see — and misjudge — one another.

To mark the 40th anniversary of her celebrated play, acclaimed Canadian writer Ann-Marie MacDonald takes centre stage as Constance Ledbelly, an overlooked academic swept into the worlds of Shakespeare’s heroines. Blending sharp humour with emotional insight, the production reimagines characters like Desdemona and Juliet as bold architects of their own destinies. Both playful and thought-provoking, this enduring Canadian classic explores identity, imagination, and self-discovery while reminding audiences that finding the courage to tell one’s own story can be truly transformative.

Inspired by a headline-making Canadian corporate battle, this gripping new drama follows the struggle for control of the Rogers Communications empire after the death of founder Ted Rogers. As Edward Rogers fights to secure his legacy, regulator Matthew Boswell works to challenge the company’s billion-dollar Shaw takeover. Written by acclaimed playwright Michael Healey and starring Tom Rooney, the production explores ambition, family conflict, corporate influence, and the personal cost of power and succession.

In Raised by Women, Métis playwright and performer Keith Barker delivers a deeply personal solo show blending humour, storytelling, and heartfelt reflection. Inspired by his upbringing in Northern Ontario, the performance celebrates the strong women who shaped his life while exploring the lasting influence of an often-absent father. With the rhythm of stand-up comedy and the emotional depth of memoir, the production moves effortlessly between laughter and honesty, revealing how family, identity, and memory can shape the stories people carry throughout their lives.

Set in a remote seaside hotel, Creditors follows a young artist and his wife whose fragile marriage begins to unravel after the arrival of a charismatic stranger. What starts as casual conversation evolves into a tense psychological game of manipulation, jealousy, and emotional control. In this bold reimagining of August Strindberg’s classic drama, Artistic Director Brendan Healy crafts a darkly witty and unsettling exploration of ego, desire, and power. Sharp, seductive, and emotionally charged, the production examines who controls the story — and who ultimately suffers for it.
