A charity concert to raise funds to help those who come through the doors to the Haven. The Haven offers an atmosphere of respect, dignity, and security as we assist people on their way to becoming more self–sufficient.
Haven on the Queensway today announces “Stage & Screen” – a performance by the Toronto Concert Orchestra to take place on October 22, 2016 at CPA Centre.
Renowned Canadian conductor and Classical FM 96.3 broadcaster Maestro Kerry Stratton will direct the orchestra in a sparkling night of live music. Internationally acclaimed, Maestro Stratton has conducted the George Solti Orchestra, Budapest; the Vienna Concert-Verein, Czech Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra Internazionale d’Italia and, most recently, the Slovak Sinfonietta. The Toronto Concert Orchestra will present highlights from some of the greatest scores for film and theatre including: Star Wars, Les Misérables, Porgy and Bess, Phantom of the Opera, and many more.
The evening will feature the premiere of a work commissioned of Canadian Composer/Cellist Samuel Bisson, whose compositions include the score to the award-winning short film “Nuit Blanche”, as well as the soundtrack to the Mandarin language feature film “Lovesick”, released theatrically in China and Taiwan.
An exciting element of the evening is a youth choir made up of local area high school students. This pilot project, “Learning from the Best” is an innovative musical learning experience designed by Maestro Stratton for young people to experience a unique opportunity to prepare to perform in a major concert environment under hands-on guidance and mentorship.
Tickets for the Stage & Screen Charity Concert are available from the CPA Centre Box office. Reserved seating ranges from $25-$40 and student tickets are $15.
