Toronto Zoo Marks 41st Remembrance Day with Veterans & Military Appreciation Week

The Toronto Zoo will once again pause to recognize Canada’s veterans and military personnel this November, combining its 41st annual Remembrance Day Ceremony with a six-day Veterans & Military Appreciation Week.

Running from November 8 to 13, 2026, the week provides an opportunity to remember those who served while extending a special welcome to veterans, active members of the Canadian Armed Forces and members of the Royal Canadian Legion. The annual Remembrance Day ceremony takes place on Wednesday, November 11.

Complimentary Admission for Veterans and Military Members

Throughout Veterans & Military Appreciation Week, eligible members of the military community will receive complimentary Toronto Zoo admission and parking.

The offer applies to members of the Royal Canadian Legion, veterans who attend in uniform or present medals, military insignia or identification, and serving members of the Canadian Armed Forces in uniform or with appropriate identification.

Eligible visitors can proceed directly to a Zoo entrance for admission.

It’s a fitting gesture from one of Toronto’s best-known attractions and turns the observance into something that extends beyond the November 11 ceremony itself.

41 Years of Remembrance at the Zoo

On November 11, the focus shifts to the Toronto Zoo’s 41st Remembrance Day Ceremony.

The longevity of the service makes it an established Toronto tradition in its own right. The Zoo has held Remembrance Day observances for decades, bringing together veterans, families, visitors and members of the community to recognize Canada’s wartime sacrifices. Historical Zoo records, for example, document its 24th annual service in 2009 and 36th ceremony in 2021.

National Indigenous Veterans Day

The week begins with another important observance.

On Sunday, November 8, the Toronto Zoo will recognize National Indigenous Veterans Day. A commemorative wreath will be displayed near the Zoo’s First Nations Art Garden, honouring the wartime service and sacrifices of Indigenous soldiers and veterans.

The Zoo also provides complimentary admission to Indigenous Peoples, with no advance online ticket purchase required for that admission.

Including National Indigenous Veterans Day gives the week’s programming a broader perspective on Canada’s military history and recognizes contributions that were not always given the attention they deserved.

A Different Setting for Remembrance

Toronto has numerous cenotaphs and civic Remembrance Day services, but the Zoo’s longstanding ceremony offers families another way to participate in November’s commemorations.
