Vintage Wheels & Wings Brings Classic Cars and Historic Aircraft Together in Hamilton

Vintage Cars Meet Historic Aircraft

Classic cars and historic aircraft will share the spotlight when Vintage Wheels & Wings returns to the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum on Sunday, September 20.

The one-day event brings hundreds of vintage vehicles together with the museum’s celebrated aircraft collection, creating an unusual opportunity to explore two very different chapters of transportation history in one place.

Where Automotive and Aviation History Meet

For anyone who appreciates the engineering and design of another era, Vintage Wheels & Wings offers plenty to explore.

Throughout the grounds, visitors can expect to find vehicles representing decades of automotive history alongside aircraft connected to Canada’s military aviation story. The museum considers vehicles manufactured 20 years ago or earlier — 2006 and older for this year’s event — to be vintage.

That broad definition means the show isn’t limited to the earliest classics. It opens the field to a wide variety of vehicles and generations, giving families an opportunity to compare the cars people once drove with the aircraft that helped shape Canadian aviation history.

The Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum itself houses a collection of almost 50 aircraft and displays dedicated to Canadian military aviation from the Second World War to the present, with many aircraft in the collection still capable of flying.

A Full House of Vintage Vehicles

Interest from vehicle owners has already been strong: pre-registration for displaying a vintage vehicle is sold out, and the museum has reached its maximum vehicle capacity. Only pre-registered vehicles will be admitted to the show.

Registered owners also have the opportunity to have their vehicle professionally photographed in front of one of the museum’s vintage aircraft for a minimum $10 cash donation to the museum.

For spectators, that combination should make for some memorable views — polished automobiles lined up against a backdrop of historic aircraft isn’t something you’ll find at the average weekend car show.
