Music history will come alive in Newmarket this June as Céleste Music presents its inaugural Early Keyboard Festival, an immersive celebration of historical keyboard performance and artistry. Presented in partnership with the Town of Newmarket, the festival will take place at the Serpa Galleries inside Old Town Hall, located at 460 Botsford Street.
Running across several dates from June 5 to June 28, 2026, the festival combines concerts, masterclasses, student showcases and educational experiences designed to introduce audiences to the rich sounds and stories of historical keyboard instruments.
The unique programme transforms the gallery space into a living musical exhibition where audiences can hear centuries-old instruments performed by internationally respected artists and historical performance specialists.
A Celebration of Historical Sound
At the heart of the festival are five public concerts showcasing Céleste Music’s remarkable collection of historical keyboards. Audiences will experience authentic interpretations of classical and early music performed on carefully restored instruments designed to recreate the sounds originally intended by composers of past centuries.
Festival organisers are also introducing several newly acquired historical keyboards to North American audiences for the very first time. These rare instruments offer listeners an opportunity to hear the tonal colours, textures and musical character that shaped keyboard music throughout European history.
In addition to the performances themselves, guests are invited to explore the instruments up close and engage directly with performers and experts throughout the festival.
