9:30pm, Fridays, November 27 – December 18th, 2015
From the award-winning improv theatre company that brought Toronto audiences Final Frontier and Throne of Games, comes A Galaxy Far, Far Away, an unscripted comedy inspired by George Lucas’ Star Wars films.
A Galaxy Far, Far Away includes familiar favorites from one of the best-loved movie series of all times, with the fresh originality of unscripted comedy. Each show is a completely unique, standalone episode, in which original characters face a new set of intergalactic discoveries and dangers within the Star Wars universe. With all of the adventure, action, and imagination of the original movies, this unscripted comedy highlights the unsung (and unheard of) characters just off screen. Paying homage to its source material, A Galaxy Far, Far Away imagines a new group of unlikely Rebel Alliance leaders, bizarre alien species, and evil Empire minions. If you’ve ever wondered who was keeping the dark side at bay while Luke and Leia were sharing that one weird kiss, this show is for you.
Directed by acclaimed Toronto improvisor Jess Bryson (Bad Dog Repertory Players) this production features a fantastic crew of renowned comedic performers. A Galaxy Far, Far Away encourages its audience to participate and affect the outcome of the characters’ adventures – with The Force Awakens on the horizon, Bad Dog’s Star Wars send-up show couldn’t be better timed for eager Lucas fans.
“A Galaxy Far, Far Away ties together two of my favourite things: Star Wars and improv.” says director Jess Byrson. “At the heart of Lucas’ films is a hero’s quest, a narrative format we teach and perform all the time at Bad Dog. The simple structure of the quest lends itself to unscripted work – the improvisers get to play larger-than-life characters, create detailed worlds, and push the genre’s comedic potential. I can’t wait to see what will happen.”
