Bad Hats Theatre is thrilled to announce The Peter Pan Brewery Tour, performing in five of Toronto’s craft-beer-loving neighbourhoods from December 2 – 10, 2016. A beautiful new re-telling of J.M. Barrie‘s beloved story, this folk music adaptation of Peter Pan soars to new heights in Toronto’s finest neighbourhood breweries. Performed by some of Toronto’s hottest Indie Theatre actors and directed by the incomparable Severn Thompson, this show is a perfect holiday outing for kids and kids at heart.
Peter Pan premiered in 2015 at The Old Flame Brewery in Port Perry. This year’s production features a brand new script adapted by Fiona Sauder and Reanne Spitzer and a stunning, folksy, lively musical score by Landon Doak and Company. Says co-writer Fiona Sauder, “I wanted to write a new adaptation of Peter Pan with a focus on the lesson that growing old is inevitable but growing up is optional. At Bad Hats we believe a world where imagination and play reign supreme, a Neverland, is not all that different form our real world. In fact, we believe they are the same place.”
Reflecting on the show’s premiere in Port Perry, Jack Doak, Owner of the Old Flame Brewery said, “I am very proud to have been a part of the launch of this special production. Peter Pan is a delicious, magical and nostalgic ride. It was brilliant to watch it in a neighbourhood brewery sipping an Ontario Craft Beer. Cheers to Neverland and never growing up!”
When asked why she signed onto this project director Severn Thompson explained “Joining innovative indie theatre with the dynamic local brewery movement is the perfect match! It really will be an exciting evening for the whole family.”
The outstanding ensemble for this new musical features Jocelyn Adema (Director of Molly Bloom – Fourth Gorgon Theatre, Tire Swing – Filament Incubator), Graham Conway (The Tempest – Ravenous Theatre, Hamlet – Hart House), Landon Doak (Woman of No Importance – Shaw Festival Theatre, Romeo and Juliet – Old Flame Brewing Company), Matthew Finlan (Woman of No Importance – Shaw Festival Theatre, Corpus Flock of Flyers – US/Asia Tour), Lena Maripu (Molly Bloom – Fourth Gorgon Theatre, Titus Andronicus – Seven Siblings Theatre), Matt Pilipiak (Three Men in a Boat – Pea Green Theatre, Midsummer Night’s Dream – Humber River Shakespeare), Victor Pokinko (Three Men in a Boat – Pea Green Theatre, Munsch Mash – Solar Stage), Fiona Sauder (co-Artistic Director of Bad Hats Theatre, Taming of the Shrew – Driftwood Theatre), Tal Shulman (To Kill a Mockingbird- Young People’s Theatre, Shakespeare In Love – Stratford Festival ), Reanne Spitzer (The Fighting Days – ECT, Molly Bloom – Fourth Gorgon Theatre) and Dan Volchok (Cheater – Lottery Records ).
The show is directed by Severn Thompson (Madam Mao – Azure Productions, Elle – Theatre Passe Muraille), with musical direction by Nathan Carroll (Marathon of Hope: The Musical – Drayton , Once – Mirvish,).
